Daily care & hydration
Daily washing
By washing your feet daily with lukewarm water and a mild soap, you remove dirt, sweat, and bacteria that can cause skin problems. Pay extra attention to the skin between your toes, as moisture tends to accumulate there more easily. Proper cleansing prevents unpleasant odors and keeps the skin barrier healthy.
Hydrating and nourishing
After washing, it is important to generously apply a nourishing cream to your feet. This prevents dry heels, cracks, and a tight feeling. Also, try applying cream to your feet before bedtime and wear clean cotton socks: this allows the cream to absorb optimally. Regular hydration keeps the skin supple and reduces the chance of cracks and irritations. A recommended product for this is the Oud‑Hollandsche Ambachtscrème, thanks to its rich, nourishing formula that intensely feeds the skin.
Protection & good footwear
Avoid extreme surfaces
Walking on hot tiles, cold concrete, or damp surfaces such as in swimming pools and saunas can damage the skin and increase the risk of infections. Flip-flops or pool shoes provide a simple but effective barrier. They protect against fungi, burns, and drying out of the soles of the feet.
Invest in quality shoes
Good shoes support your feet, improve your posture, and prevent issues such as blisters, pressure points, and back pain. Choose breathable materials like leather or mesh and pay attention to a sturdy footbed. Rotate your shoes daily so they can air out and wear socks made of cotton or wool to regulate sweat. Comfortable footwear is an investment in your whole body.
Nail Care & Movement
Cut nails straight
By cutting your toenails straight, you prevent them from growing into the skin, which can cause painful infections. Do not cut the nails too short and gently push back the cuticles after applying cream. Watch for discoloration or thickening: this may indicate a fungal nail. If in doubt, a pedicurist can provide advice and professional care.
Daily walking
Walking stimulates the blood circulation in your feet, strengthens the muscles, and keeps the joints flexible. A daily walk of 45 to 60 minutes helps not only your feet but also your overall health. For this, wear well-fitting walking shoes that provide support and absorb shocks. Movement is one of the most natural ways to keep your feet fit.
